What is SAFEmpowerment

Domestic abuse is the most prevalent form of abuse experienced by women and girls

Everyone can play a role in addressing awareness and we must tackle this at home and in schools.

SAFEmpowerment was set up to primarily help young girls who were witnessing domestic abuse in the home, had been a victim of domestic abuse, or who professionals recognised as being in/likely to be in an unhealthy relationship. SAFEmpowerment is also beneficial to young people who are likely to be at risk of child exploitation.

We feel that there has been minimal intervention towards young people and domestic abuse and sadly many of these young people are going to become the women that are currently in refuges today.

With a little intervention either in a group setting or one to one we are able to support the young people to learn about teenage relationship abuse and how it effects them.

Being a teenager can be a difficult and confusing time for anyone, but when you find yourself in a relationship in which you are treated badly and which “hurts” it can leave the young person with extra layers of confusion, self-doubt, a lack of confidence and lowered self-esteem.

On one single day there are 1835 children and young people living in a domestic abuse refuge

Something needs to be done to stop the teens of today becoming part of this statistic tomorrow
